Río de la Plata

Buenos Aires

The way in and the way out, and worth two days of its own at either end.

Almost every trip south passes through Buenos Aires, and most people treat it as a connection. That is a waste of a city that eats late, argues well and has more plane trees than sense.

Two days at the front end handles jet lag and the equipment errands nobody plans for. Two days at the back end is better: you arrive knowing what you want to eat and who you want to tell about the week.

The surrounding province is also where polo and the older estancias are, which makes a day out of the city easy to justify.
